(The Necropolis)

This page is dedicated to the Dungeons and Dragons Online Exploration Area called the Orchard of the Macabre. This area is available to DDO characters level 10 through 19. The normal level difference penalties for questing do not apply for parties in adventure areas. The Orchard of the Macabre is reachable from The Necropolis and contains the quest series for the Black Abbot. You can get to The Necropolis from House Phiarlan. There are 1 Slayer Quest, 23 Exploration Points, and 15 Rare Encounters in this zone.

Slayer Quest

10 killed earns 255 experience.
25 killed earns 469 experience.
50 killed earns 765 experience.
100 killed earns 1307 experience.
200 killed earns 2310 experience.
400 killed earns 4290 experience.
750 killed earns 7420 experience.
1500 killed earns 15782 experience.
3000 killed earns ??? experience.

The map is pretty evely divided into quadrants, with the entrance point at the center. The Southwest section has a lot of shadows and wraiths. The Northwest section has humanoids, flesh golems, and rodents. The Northeast section has humanoids that when killed turn into undead. The Southeast section has vampires and cold-based undead.

Explorer Quest

Each location is worth 425 experience. Finding all 23 locations is worth 2443 experience.

Find the Doomsphere Tower: Located on the West side of the Southwest section. It is on the lowest level, but stands out above most of the terrain, so it is easy to spot.

Find the flesh maker tower: Located on the North side of the Northwest section. If you follow the road from the entrance to the T, then head North across the river, you'll see it.

Find the high priest tower: Located on the East side of the Southeast section. It is up on a ledge and you can get there from North or South. Like the other towers, it stands out above the rest of the terrain.

Find the inferno tower: Located in the Northeast corner of the Northeast section. You can see it above the terrain from a long ways off, as it is set up on a mound of land. The ramp up is just Northwest of the tower.

Find the Stones of Slaughter: Located in almost dead center of the Southeast section. It is on the North side of the backwards L-shaped island.

Find the Bone Yard: Located due West of the entrance. You'll see two large piles of bones and a lot of rats.

Find the tree bridge: Located along the far East branch of the river, nearly due East of the entrance. Just a warning, there are two tree bridges, but only the more East one gives the exploration point. It's on the path leading to the shrine.

Find the Slaughtergrounds: Located in the far Southwest corner of the Southwest section. If following the road all the way Southwest, it is in the brighter green grass area that forms a basin as the road curves up.

Find Overwatch Point: Located on top of a hill not far from the entrance. Head West from the entrance and follow the road. Keep an eye out for a narrow grassy ramp on your left side, after you pass the first big tree. The ramp will spiral up. If you get to the T in the road, you missed the ramp.

Find the Fell Isle: This is the island on the West branch of the Southeast river system. If you go through the Underground Pass, you'll be dumped out here.

Find the Shadow Plots: Located in the Southwest corner of the Southeast section. It is up a ramp and fairly well protected by archers.

Find the Family Burial Grounds: Located in the Northeast corner of the Northeast section. Look for the iron fences and graves, and watch out for the named Wraith.

Find tbe Inferno of the Damned: This quest entrance is located due East of the entrance, up on a plateau at the edge of the map. The ramp up is on the South side and has a path. When you get up there, you'll have to jump down a little hole to get to the quest, but just getting next to the hole will get you the exploration point.

Find Doomsphere's Haunt: This quest entrance is located at the end of the road in the far Southwest corner of the map.

Find the Flesh Maker's Laboratory: This quest entrance is located in the far Northwest corner of the map. To get there, head East from the entrance, through the Bone Yard, all the way to the edge of the map. Then follow the ledge all the way North to the building.

Find the Desecrated Temple of Vol: This quest entrance is the large pyramid-like structure in the Southeast corner of the map. The exploration point for it is actually on the steps at the front of the temple.

Find the Underground Pass: Located in the pond of water on the East side of the Southwest section. This cave has a drop in it that you can't come back from, and will dump you out near Fell Isle on the other side of the map. Have featherfall on when you exit.

Find Pyttan's Tomb: Located in the Southeast corner of the Southwest section of the map. It is up on a ledge that starts a little to the East and then curves along the edge of the map back to the West.

Find the Western Crypts: Located in the Northwest corner of the Southwest section of the map. It is a large area of crypts and fairly easy to stumble upon.

Find the Northern Crypts: Located on the North edge of the map, just East of the entrance. It is up on higher ground.

Find the Eastern Falls: Located on the East edge of the map, just South of the entrance. Follow the river all the way East to the lake and look for the waterfall.

Find the Eastern Crypts: Located on the West side of the Southeast section. If you follow the river down to the area with all the islands, just follow the west wall to the area with all the crypts.

Find the Burial Chamber: Located in the Southeast corner of the Southeast section. From the little water inlet area in the corner of the map, follow the grass up to the Southeast and work your way up to the very corner of the edge of the map.


Rare Encounters Quest

Each encounter is worth 850 experience. Completing all 15 encounters is worth 6375 experience. The exploration area introduced several rare encounters that have multiple spawn points. That is, some of the rare encounters can show up in more than one spot, though only one location per instance. On my annotated map, these are indicated by one name with lines pointing to their possible spawn locations.

Destroy the Carcass Eaters infesting the Bone Yard: Located on the larger pile in the Bone Yard. Kill all the carcass eaters in the vicinity and if more spawn, then you've found the encounter. Fearsome armor can make it annoying to track down any rodents that have fled in fear. You have to kill them all to get credit.

Slay Parcae, Escaped Flesh Golem: (CR 16) Parcae has two spawn locations. One is at the base of the Doomsphere Tower. The other is located just Northeast of that in the lower grassy area.

Slay Tahareh, Wandering Beholder: (CR 17) Tahareh has two spawn locations. One is right next to the large mushroom-shaped tree in the South-center of the Southwest section. The other is located further Southeast in the clearning between all the trees.

Slay Firenze, Elder Fire Elemental: (CR 16) Located nearly due East from the entrance. Follow the river past the first waterfall and on your left you'll find a place where the ground is all gray and burned, under the shade of a large tree. That is where Firenze spawns.

Slay Palmis Samit, Giant Skeleton: (CR 18) Palmis has two spawn locations. The first is in the far Southeast corner of the water in the Southeast section. The other is located on the cliff just north of that, on the East edge of the map, where it jutts out.

Slay Otvos Gisun, Mummy: (CR 16) Otvos has two spawn locations. The first is in the cave at the Eastern Falls. The other is located on a ledge on the North side of the waterfall.

Slay Madellia Braelon, Blackbone Skeleton: (CR 16) Medellia can spawn in any of the three Eastern Crypt buildings that you can enter. The only hard one to find is way up on higher ground, which you get to by the hill on the South side of the Eastern crypts.

Slay Cymon Durosom, Arcane Skeleton: (CR 17) Cymon can spawn in either of the two Northern Crypt buildings that you can enter.

Slay Huckaby Isable, Shadow: (CR 17) Located inside the Underground Pass.

Destroy the Zombie Train: Located at the T-intersection of the road West of the entrance. You have to kill all the escorts, and more will spawn each time you kill one of the three wagons.

Rescue Radhnik Odeen: Located on the lowest ground in the Southeast corner of the map. This encounter is a protection mission, and Radhnik is squishy, so you'll need a healer to do this encounter. It doesn't trigger until you talk to him.

Slay Edeva Yllka, Dread Wraith: (CR 16) Located in the Family Burial Grounds, in a fenced-off area with a single crypt in it.

Slay Quinny, Giant Undead Rat: (CR 16) Located in the Burial Chamber.

Slay Gwennaelle Ruchelia, Wheep: (CR 17) Gwennaelle can spawn in any of the three Western Crypt buildings that you can enter. One of them is up on higher ground.

Slay Pyttan Ayrienne, Zombie: (CR 16) Not surprising, Pyttan spawns in Pyttan's Tomb.
